Under the category of “breaking news,” FC Dallas has just traded forward Abe Thompson to Kansas City for an undisclosed amount of allocation money, according to the FC Dallas Blog.
More than likely, additional big announcements will be forthcoming in the next few days. With the lineup changes illustrated in Thursday’s loss to Colorado, call the “breaking news” another way to say the makeup of this team is breaking up for a major re-haul for next year.
Following the game Thursday night, Schellas Hyndman said the major focus is still winning games to get in the playoffs. No one is saying the season has been written off, but actions are starting to indicate otherwise.
Youth dominated the starting lineup against Colorado and right flank Andre Rocha was not even on the bench. Hyndman said the Brazilian’s absence was the result of an “internal issue.” He also said later that as far as he was concerned, the issue was closed and over. What that means now leaves a lot for the imagination.
Thompson was a popular player for the Hoops, acquired in 2005 as the fourth player selected in the second round for Dallas in the supplemental draft. The Maryland product has started in 32 games since then, playing in 69 and scoring 14 career goals. He has scored three this season, two of them game-winners in stoppage time.
He has done exceptionally well for a supplemental draft pick, overcoming a lack of foot speed with smart positioning and intense focus.
