Rito Anthony Mungioli, a former collegiate All-American with SMU and a three-year captain for the Mustangs under head coach Jimmy Benedek, was killed today when an 18-year-old driver of a pickup truck struck the 51-year-old Mungioli from behind as he was riding his bicycle eastbound on Arapaho at the intersection with Greenville.

The accident happened at 7:30 a.m.

Mungioli, a longtime soccer player, fan, coach and manager, sponsored the Azzurri soccer club that has won several national and regional championships in United States Amateur Soccer Association (USASA) competitions. He and his entire family are very involved in the soccer community in the Metroplex.

Mungioli, class of 1980 at SMU, was a graduate of Richardson High School and went to SMU as part of former coach Jimmy Benedek's second recruiting class.
