Both of Dallas’ goals against D.C. United have been nominated for MLS Goal of the Week and FCD fans can navigate to the MLS website (www.mlsnet.com) to vote.
First was the goal by Jeff Cunningham, his 10th of the season. It came in the 18th minute after log feed from the back by teammate Dave van den Bergh. Cunningham got control but had to battle defender Julius James for the ball at the top left corner of the box. James pulled on his shoulder and as Cunningham pulled free, United’s goalie Josh Wicks was coming in to challenge him. Cunningham lobbed a ball into the now empty net and put FCD into the lead.
D.C. United’s Marc Burch equalized just before the half, but Dallas retook the lead in the 50th minute on David Ferreira’s goal.
Again, it was van den Bergh who assisted, seeing Ferreira open in the middle, heading to goal. He dropped a pass at Ferreira’s feet and the Colombian took two or three steps up and blasted the ball into the goal.
