JOHN'S GOAL UP FOR G.O.T.W.
For first strike against Colorado

Defender George John (14) is not bashful in using his head for offense, especially on set pieces. That is how he scored FCD's opening goal Saturday, a strike nominated for the MLS Goal of the Week. Photo by Michael Stephens |
George John has hardly taken a mis-step since he was drafted by FC Dallas this year---except staying healthy. But when on the field, John has fit in with the plan, whatever it was, and with whomever he has played shoulder to shoulder with. Saturday night, he stepped out early and bold with a header goal in the fourth minute that was picture perfect, along with the just-as-perfect crossing assist from Dave van den Bergh. It blasted FC Dallas to a quick 1-0 lead over Colorado and helped set the tone of Dallas victory that has propelled it to the brink of the playoffs. Now that goal has been recognized as a nominee for the MLS Goal of the Week.
It was John’s first professional goal and with the help of MLS and FC Dallas fans, it could stand as the week’s best. Go to www.mlsnet.com and vote for your choice.
John faces competition from Real Salt Lake’s Fabian Espindola, Luciano Emilio of DC United, Seattle’s Nate Jaqua, Brandon McDonald of San Jose and Maykel Galindo of Chivas. Espindola’s effort, a bender to the far corner from just inside the left side of the penalty box, is John’s strongest competition. The strength of John’s header is its technical perfection and confident execution.
