AGGIES ADD 2 SOCCER SIGNEES
Both players from Texas

COLLEGE STATION, TX – The Texas A&M soccer team signed two student-athletes to national letters of intent, head coach G Guerrieri announced Wednesday. Though just two in number, coach G says they have a chance to be influential.

Sara Ellis (The Woodlands, Texas) will join the Aggie soccer team for the 2010 season while Rachel Lenz (Round Rock, Texas) has already been training with the team and will play for A&M in its spring exhibition matches.

“This is a unique signing class for Texas A&M Soccer,” said Guerrieri. “It’s a class that is small in number, but will have a great impact on our team’s success in 2010.

“We were very picky in creating this class, since we only graduated two seniors from our 2009 team and will return one of the most talented and deep squads in our program’s rich history for 2010. So, this year we were only interested in bringing in players who could immediately contribute on the level of those players already in our starting lineup.

“I am proud of the fact that our program has achieved the kind of national success over the years which allows us the luxury to be very particular about the kind of young ladies that we bring into our family. And, I know that Aggies and Texas A&M soccer fans everywhere will be very impressed with the class of these student-athletes and how well they represent the University in our mission of Building Champions.

“I’m excited about what these two players bring to our program on many different levels – as soccer players, as students at our great University, and as responsible members of our community. Rachel and Sara are wonderful individuals who fit perfectly with the high team standards established by the Aggies who’ve been in our soccer program over the years.

“In addition to these two new players we also return some of our most talented student-athletes who redshirted the 2009 season due to injury. That list includes two All-Big 12 players (Amber Gnatzig and Beth West), one of the most powerful players in the Big 12 (Raven Tatum) as well as one of the fastest (Shawn-tae Greene).

“Next year we will graduate seven seniors, so we’ll be announcing a 2011 signing class with more names than in 2010.

“I think you can see why we are especially excited about the team we’ll have next season now that these players are a part of our program.”
