Baylor is #2 seed in Big 12 Tournament



IRVING, TX – For clinching the regular season conference title in its inaugural season, No. 14 West Virginia (11-3-4, 7-0-1) secured the No. 1 seed in next week’s Big 12 Championship.

The top eight teams based on conference results qualify for the postseason event that will take place in San Antonio, Texas, Oct. 31, Nov. 2 and 4 at Blossom Soccer Stadium.

Riding a 15-game unbeaten streak, No. 15 Baylor (14-1-4, 5-0-3) will be the second seed while Texas Tech (14-4-1, 5-2-1) is slated as the No. 3 seed.

The Texas Longhorns (7-10-1, 4-4) earned the fourth spot, and Oklahoma’s fi nal-game victory over Iowa State helped earn the Sooners (7-8-4, 3-3-2) the No. 5 seed. After finishing the Conference season last weekend, Kansas (10-7-2, 3-5) secured the No. 6 seed while preseason favorite Oklahoma State (11-5-3, 1-4-3) will be in the seventh slot.

TCU (6-9-3, 1-5-2) helped clinch its spot in the tournament with last weekend’s victory over Texas and will round out the fi eld as the No. 8 seed.

The first two quarterfinal matches on Wednesday, Oct. 31, will feature Texas versus Oklahoma at 11:30 a.m. and Texas Tech against Kansas at 2 p.m. West Virginia takes on TCU at 5:30 p.m. for the third game of the day. The nightcap will be Baylor versus Oklahoma State at 8 p.m.

Texas is the only team to make all 17 Big 12 soccer championships.

After Wednesday’s quarterfinal round, the event continues Friday, Nov. 2, with two semifinal contests before the championship will be on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 1:10 p.m. CT. The fi nal match will be broadcast by FSN, while the six matches leading up to it will be streamed live by the Big 12 Digital Network on Big12Sports.com.
