ALL-BIG 12 TEAM
OU’s Cuellar, WVa’s McCarthy headline team
IRVING, TX – Oklahoma senior Renae Cuellar headlines a group of 33 student-athletes recognized on the annual All-Big 12 soccer team, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
The transfer forward claimed the Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year award and earned spots on the All-Big 12 First Team and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team. West Virginia’s Bry McCarthy took the Defensive Player of the Year honor while head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown garnered Coach of the Year recognition. Texas Tech’s Janine Beckie was honored as Rookie of the Year.
Cuellar, a La Puente, Calif.-native, leads the pack in Conference play with 13 points and six goals in eight league games. She has 12 goals overall this season, the third-most in a single season in OU history.
McCarthy, a senior from Ajax, Ontario, helped West Virginia clinch the regular season Big 12 crown in its first year in the league. WVU is currently on a 13-match unbeaten streak and finished Big 12 play with a 7-0-1 record, marking only the sixth time a team has won the regular season title without a loss. The Mountaineers were picked to finish second in the Conference Preseason Poll and are currently ranked No. 14 in the nation.
Beckie leads the league in shots (106) and leads all freshman with a team-high 11 goals. She was also named to the All-Big 12 First Team and was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 Newcomer Team.
The Big 12 also announced its All-Big 12 First and Second Team selections, as well as the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. Texas Tech led all teams with four First Team selections while West Virgina garnered the most total selections with seven.
