Match Day 13 roundup
Cruz Azul 3, Queretaro 2
Last-place Queretaro kept things close, but Cruz Azul held on for a 3-2 win Saturday at Estadio Azul.
Omar Bravo led La Maquina with two goals, in the eighth and 39th minutes, and Hugo Pavone closed out the Cruz Azul scoring in the 58th, with his fifth goal of the season.
Bravo opened the scoring with a tap-in, darting between two defenders for a pass from Israel Castro, but Diego Vera leveled the score in the 30th, getting his head on a left-side service from Armando Pulido. Bravo restored Crus Azul’s lead with a hard shot from the center of the penalty area, and then set the table as Pavone increased the lead to 3-1.
Luis Landin kept Queretaro within striking distance with a goal in the 71st. Vera notched the assist.
La Maquina improve to 5-6-2 and 21 points. The loss was the tenth of the tournament for Queretaro (0-3-10, 3).
Leon 2, Tigres 0
Leon kept their place among the Apertura leaders with Saturday’s 2-0 win over depleted Tigres at Estadio Nou Camp.
Matias Britos delivered the game to the Apertura newcomers with a first minute header, after a turnover by Tigres’ Alonso Zamora. Nelson Maz added an insurance goal from the penalty spot in the 35th, after being fouled in the box by Jonathan Bornstein.
Due primarily to international callups, Tigres were without six starters for Saturday’s match.
The Esmeraldas finish week 13 at 7-3-3 and 12 points, while Tigres are in the middle of the table at 3-5-5 (14).
San Luis 2, Atlante 2
Jeronimo Amione scored twice in the final eight minutes to lift Atlante (3-5-5, 14 pts) into a 2-2 tie with San Luis (2-4-7, 10) Saturday at Estadio Alfonso Lastras Ramirez.
Luis Mendoza gave the Gladiadores a 1-0 advantage off a rebound in the second minute, and Noe Maya made the score 2-0 at the hour mark.
Amione started the Potros’ comeback in the 82nd minute, and knotted the score in the second minute of stoppage time.
Santos Laguna 2, Tijuana 2
Daniel Luduena’s second goal of the game, in the 73rd minute, lifted hosts Santos Laguna into a 2-2 tie with league leaders Tijuana Saturday at Estadio Corona.
Luduena opened the scoring in the eighth minute, slipping the ball inside the left post past goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo. Gregory Garza equalized for the Xolos in the 28th, collecting the rebound after defender Oswaldo Alanis cleared Duvier Riascos’ shot off the line, and Riascos headed home his fifth goal of the season to leave Tijuana up 2-1 in the 68th.
The draw leaves Tijuana at 8-4-1 and 28 points, two points ahead of second-place Toluca, who have a game in hand. Santos Laguna improve to 5-5-3 (20).
Pumas 1, Pachuca 0
David Ramirez scored the only goal Pumas need to defeat Pachuca 1-0 Sunday at Estadio Olimpico Universitario.
Eduardo Herrera threatened for Pumas in the 53rd minute, but hit the right post with his header. Martin Bravo had he next good look, but goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota pushed the ball around the post. Ramirez finally latched onto a rebound to snap the scoreless deadlock in the 84th minute, leaving Pumas with a 6-2-5 record and 20 points. Pachuca fall to 3-5-5 (14).
Chivas 1, Jaguares 1
Chivas de Guadalajara played Jaguares to a 1-1 draw Sunday at Estadio Omnilife.
Antonio Gallardo put Chivas on the board first, off a corner kick in the 41st minute. Luis Gabriel Rey, who had forced Chivas netminder Luis Michel into an athletic one-handed save earlier in the second half, equalized for the Felines in the 66thafter Rey blocked Franco Arizala’s shot back into play.
Chivas defender Hector Reynoso will be suspended for next week’s match after receiving his second yellow card and being sent off in the 87th minute of Sunday’s match.
Chivas go into Week 14 at 4-5-4 and 17 points. The draw leaves Jaguares at 4-4-5 (16).
