COMMERCE CITY, Colo.---The LA Galaxy's four-game winning streak came to an end at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Sunday, as they played to a 1-1- draw with the Colorado Rapids.
Marcelo Sarvas gave the Galaxy the lead in the 10th minute, but the Rapids, who have not lost in their last four home games, came back to tie it six minutes later on a goal by Jaime Castrillon.
Sarvas opened the scoring off a rebound, after Robbie Keane had a shot blocked back to the top of the penalty area.
LA’s lead lasted only six minutes. Conor Casey and Hunter Freeman did a give-and-go near midfield, with Freeman getting the ball out wide as Casey continued his run toward the area. Freeman sent the ball back into the middle and Castrillon charged in and poked a shot from inside the area into the bottom right corner of the net.
The Galaxy thought they had retaken the lead in the 29th minute, when Keane flicked on a ball that had been played out of midfield. Landon Donovan got tangled up with Freeman in the area, but went through the Rapids defender and put the ball in the net. The goal was disallowed for a foul on Donovan, who received a yellow card for arguing the call.
The Galaxy remain third in the MLS West at 15-11-5 and 50 points. The Rapids (9-18-4) remain in the running for the final unclaimed playoff spot in the conference with 31 points, but are a long shot, needing to make up at least eight points in their three remaining games.
