12 MLS players earn over $1 million

New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry is the highest paid player in Major League Soccer according to figures released by the MLS Players Union.
Henry's base salary is $5 million, while his guaranteed compensation is $5.6 million. His New York Red Bulls teammate Rafa Marquez has the second highest salary in the league at $4.6 million.
Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder, David Beckham, who has in the past been the highest paid player in the league is third, with a base salary of $3 million and a total guaranteed compensation of just four cents under $4 million.
New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill will earn $3,499,999.92 in base salary, with a total guaranteed compensation of $ 3,624,999.92.
The LA Galaxy has two other millionaires, in Robbie Keane (base: $2,917,241.00 guaranteed: $3,417,242.75) and Landon Donovan ($ $2,400,000).
Cellar dwelling Toronto FC also boast a pair of million dollar earners in midfielder Torsten Frings (base: $2,000,000.00 guaranteed:: $ 2,413,666.67) and forward Danny Koevermans (base: $1,150,000.00, guaranteed $1,563,323.33).
Canada's two other teams, Montreal Impact each have a million dollar player, Montreal forward Marco De Vaio (base: $1,000,008.00 guaranteed: $ 1,937,508.00) and Vancouver forward Kenny Miller (base: $1,221,816.00 guaranteed: $1,239,316.00).
The other million dollar earners are FC Dallas midfielder Julian de Guzman (base: $1,863,996.00, guaranteed: $1,910,746.00) and Portland forward Kris Boyd (base: $1,250,000.00, guaranteed $1,515,000.00).
Perhaps the biggest bargain in the league is current golden boot leader and MVP candidate San Jose's Chris Wondolowski at $300,000.
By comparison, the average salary in the National Basketball Association last year was $5.15 million, in Major League Baseball it is $3.3 million, in the National Football League it is $1.9 million and the National Hockey League, which recently locked out its players and on Thursday cancelled pat of its regular season, the average last year was $2.4 million.
