ODP TRYOUTS FOR FIVE AGES
Start March 21 in DFW, Feb. 28 in W. Texas
Olympic Development Program (ODP) tryouts for boys and girls in five age groups begin Sunday, March 14 in three locations, while the West Texas tryouts will be Sunday, February 28 at Texas Tech University in Lubbock and Sunday, March 21 at Audrey Gill Sports Complex in Midland.Try outs are open to players with the birth years of 1993-1997; try out fee of $20.00.

GARZA TRANSFERS TO UCSB
Marcus graduate fresh off U20 MNT
SANTA BARBARA, CA. – One of the nation’s highest-touted transfers, who is also a product of the United States U-20 National Team, Sam Garza, headlines the 2010 UC Santa Barbara men’s soccer recruiting class, which was announced by head coach Tim Vom Steeg. Garza is North Texas soccer product and a 2008 graduate of Flower Mound Marcus High School.

WASHINGTON, D.C---MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative, and Women’s Professional Soccer have both joined forces with First Lady Michelle Obama to eliminate childhood obesity in one generation and commits to getting more children active, playing or moving for 60 minutes a day.

DALLAS CUP NAMES SUPER GROUP
16 teams; 3 national teams announced
It has been years since the Dallas Cup has had more than 12 teams in the Super Group—not because of a lack of interest---but in interest of maintaining the very highest quality for this group that is the face of this hugely popular international tournament. But for the 2010 version, the 31st edition of the Dallas Cup running from March 28 through April 4, Executive Director Gordon Jago and Tournament Director Randy Jones bowed to extraordinary interest from top clubs and federations from around the world and decided to expand the Super Group field to 16 teams this year.

Haiti, which was devastated by an earthquake last month, will open the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship against the defending champion United States, the start of the 16-game, 11-day event.

Teams must register by March 5
North Texas State Soccer Association has announced the registration deadlines for this year’s State Cup competition, which is the starting point for teams to earn their way to regional and national competitions.

Smith, Higginbotham national coaches of year
One of the real highlights of the year came early, as two Dallas youth soccer coaches (Kevin Smith and Ryan Higginbotham) were recognized by their peers as the national coaches of the year. The coaches have demonstrated their abilities many years on local and national venues. So it shouldn’t have been shocking when the beam of national recognition shined on these outstanding coaches from their coaching peers.

Three Texans' teams earn three D-Cup titles
In any year, the Dallas Cup is always a top story locally. In the community of youth soccer tournaments, it is a top story almost anywhere in the world. But 2009 was special because it was the 30th anniversary of the storied international competition. A number of very attractive U19 teams from top clubs around the world joined the tournament, including: AC Milan, CA River Plate, Sao Paulo, Manchester City, Eintracht Frankfurt , CF Monterrey, Tigres and South Hampton.

FALL TOC RUNS DEC. 5-6
Top rec-level teams determined
The biggest North Texas State Soccer Association tournament of the year, Tournament of Champions (TOC), comes twice a year. The highly anticipated competition determines the best recreation-level teams in North Texas. The Fall edition runs Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5-6, over seven complexes. The 460-team tournament concludes Sunday with finals in three complexes.

TOP GIRLS' ACTION SUNDAY
Between Sting, D'Feeter Showcases
In North Texas, the Thanksgiving weekend has evolved into a signature period for showcasing girls’ club soccer, with North Texas teams and teams from around surrounding (and further) states. Pioneering girls’ clubs D’Feeters and the Dallas Sting sponsor the competing tournaments or showcases, both of which finish Sunday.

ODP TRYOUTS SCHEDULED NOV. 22
Time changes noted for Dallas
As reported previously on Dallas Soccer News, ODP tryouts for the 1998 Birth Year start in less than two weeks (November 22) and again December 6 in North Texas, but PLEASE NOTE A TIME CHANGE for both boys and girls at the Carpenter Park location on both Nov. The girls practice from 2-5 p.m. and the boys practice from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. There are no time or date changes for the West Texas tryouts.

DALLAS CUP ADDS MEXICAN U17 N.TEAM
El Tri to compete in Super Group
Another first was scored by the Dallas Cup this week with the addition of the Mexico U17 National Team. It will be the first time for the U17 El Tri in the Dallas Cup and should instantly be a highly popular team in the Cup’s Super Group.

FCD PLAYERS IN FREE CLINIC

FC Dallas soccer players will be giving a free soccer clinic Wednesday at the Michael Johnson Performance Center at their Craig Ranch facility Oct. 28, 7-8:30 p.m. Some of the young exciting players for the club will on hand, such as Brek Shea, Peri Marosevic, Anthony Wallace, Blake Wagner, Eric Avila and Josh Lambo.
