FRISCO, TX – FC Dallas midfielder Brek Shea has been jumping out of one frying pan or another of late, either with lackluster play, suspension earlier in the season and more recently, with his public squabble with his FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman over a mid-game decision to take him off the field. But today, Shea was a late addition to the 2012 MLS All-Star team.
He was one of 13 inactive players named ahead of tonight’s 2012 AT&T MLS All-Star Game, airing live on ESPN2 and TeleFutura at 7:30 p.m. CT from Philadelphia’s PPL Park.
Shea was the only current FC Dallas player named to the squad. Other former FCD players named included; Heath Pearce (New York Red Bulls), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Marvin Chavez (San Jose Earthquakes), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders) and Kenny Cooper (New York Red Bulls).
Also a 2011 MLS All-Star, Shea's production this season has been a down tick from last year. He has scored three goals in 14 appearances for the Dallas side so far in 2012.
A minimum of 32 MLS All-Stars are named each year, per the collective bargaining agreement. Following the initial round of fan voting, as well as the head coach and commissioner's picks, Major League Soccer player voting determined the remainder of the allotted All-Star selections announced on Wednesday.
