Petrucelli focuses on California, Texas players
The University of Texas soccer head soccer coach Chris Petrucelli announced the signing of eight to National Letters of Intent for the 2008-09 academic year on Wednesday.
Texas junior defender Kasey Moore helped the Longhorns earn a record-tying four players on the All-Regional list as she became the second Texas soccer player to earn multiple All-America honors, announced today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

UT ends season with 4-0 loss
The joy of beating rival Texas A&M may have hung around too long for the University of Texas soccer players. Moving on to the third round of the NCAA Soccer Complex, the Longhorns never seemed to get into the game with tournament third-seed Florida State. Playing at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Florida, the near capacity crowd of 1,091 rooted the home team to a 4-0 pasting of Texas Friday.

The 10th-ranked University of Texas soccer team (15-3-5) has made quite a defensive reputation this season, but the Longhorns had to get offensive to snap the second ranked Texas A&M’s 20-match, home win streak, with a 3-2 victory in the second round of the NCAA playoffs.

UT to meet Aggies in second round
Freshman forward Alisha Ortiz scored two first-half goals to propel Texas past No. 24 Brigham Young, 2-0, in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship First Round at Aggie Soccer Stadium on Thursday, Nov. 15. But as in so many games this season, it was the effective Longhorn defense that dominated the game. BYU outshot Texas 25-12, but never crossed the ball into the nets.

Second-ranked Texas A&M had to take a seat for the University of Texas in the Big 12 Championship. The Longhorns, seeded second in the conference tournament, collected goals from sophomore forward Emily Anderson and Big 12 Defensive MVP Kasey Moore and held off a late rally from the top-seeded Aggies to forge a 2-1 victory in the finals of the Big 12 Championship Sunday (Nov. 11) at Blossom Soccer Stadium

When the offense can’t deliver enough points, the Texas Longhorn have learned how to survive via the penalty shootout. For the second consecutive match, Twelfth-ranked Texas used the shootout to advance to the next round of the Big 12 Soccer Championship.

Texas junior goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger swung the penalty-kick session in the Longhorns’ favor with her hands and put the match away with her feet, as she scored the fifth and deciding penalty kick in 12th ranked Texas’ victory over the University of Colorado Wednesday evening in the Big 12 Women’s Soccer Championship quarterfinals in San Antonio.

The Longhorns’ soccer fortunes backed off after a mid-season hot streak, but UT seems to be re-finding its form at just the right time.Texas clinched the second spot in the Big 12 Soccer Tournament with a 4-1 win over Colorado on Friday, Nov. 2 at Mike A Myers Stadium in Austin.

Junior goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger moved into second-place on UT’s all-time shutouts list, but the sixth-ranked Longhorns had to settle for a 0-0 tie with Kansas at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on Sunday, Oct. 21. UT still remains unbeaten in overtime play this season with the tie.

Junior defender Kasey Moore provided a clutch performance, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals as the sixth-ranked Texas Soccer team won, 3-2, over 16th-ranked Missouri in front of the second largest home crowd of the season (1,770 fans).

Bears make it tough on visiting UT
Still stinging from its first Big 12 loss on Friday at rival Texas A&M, the Longhorns found it difficult to get its offense back in gear on the road at Baylor University on Sunday. UT posted a first-half 1-0 lead on a goal by junior defender Kasey Moore and made it stand up for a victory in a defense-dominated game.

UT nips Nebraska 2-1 in OT
It took an extra 42 seconds but the Longhorns scored the game-winning goal, as second-ranked Texas extended its unbeaten streak to eight matches with a 2-1 overtime win against visiting Nebraska on Sunday, October 7.

The fifth-ranked Texas soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to four games with a 4-0 shutout over visiting Stephen F. Austin on Sunday, Sept. 23 at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
