DALLAS,TX – SMU roared back from a 2-0 halftime deficit and a two and one-half hour lightning delay Wednesday night to finally dispatch the Missouri State Bears 3-2 in double overtime at Westcott Field in the season opener for both teams. It was an all-youth movement, with freshmen Zach Barnes and Juan Castillo leading the goal charge in the second half and topped by the game-winner from sophomore T.J. SMU MEN OPEN SEASON TONIGHT Host Missouri State, 7 p.m.
SMU’s men’s soccer team starts the season tonight (7 p.m.) on home turf against a formidable opponent, the Missouri State Bears. The Mustangs are 11-3 all time against the Bears, but lost to MSU 3-1 last season in the SMU Classic. The Ponies are 19-0-2 all-time in season openers on the Hilltop. Complete story
MUSTANGS DRAW DUCKS 0-0 In West Coast wrapup
EUGENE, OR. – SMU wrapped up a rigorous West Coast trip Sunday with a double overtime 0-0 draw at the Oregon Ducks’ Pape Field. The Mustang women absorbed a lot heat from the University of Oregon, but the SMU defense was airtight, despite facing 22 shots from the Ducks.
PILOTS PUSH PAST SMU 2-0 Solid defense keys Mustang effort
What a difference a year has made for the SMU Mustang women. Knocked off 6-0 last season at home on the Hilltop by Portland, the SMU women challenged the fifth-ranked Pilots at Merlo Field in Oregon Friday night and absorbed a lot of Portland heat until giving up a Micaela Capelle goal in the 58th minute. Mustang defender Jessica Bartol earned a red card after a second yellow and that helped the Pilots as it added another goal (Danielle Foxhoven) in the 74th minute and the final 2-0 score.
