SMU women to bring 17 new players to camp
Tuesday, the other shoe, so to speak, dropped for the SMU women’s soccer team as the women's soccer coach Brent Erwin announced the signing of 10 new players: goalkeepers Rebecca Cushing (Lone Tree, Colo.) and Courtney Webb (Dallas, Texas); defenders Vicky Ascensio (Kingwood, Texas) and Tracy Diers (Dallas, Texas); midfielders Mary Connally (Arlington, Texas), Melissa Cowle (Plano, Texas), Devon Hermann (Irving, Texas), Courtney Messina (Plano, Texas) and Jordynn Prado (Plano, Texas); and forward Alex Dreyer (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), bringing to 17 the number of players in his first recruiting class.

Mustangs to host C-USA tournament
SMU just released the men's soccer schedule for 2008 and as usual, the Mustang men will be facing some of the country's top teams, both on the road and at home. Following conference play, SMU also hosts the USA Conference tournament at Westcott Nov. 12-16. In December, the Mustangs will host the NCAA championship semis and finals at Pizza Hut Park Stadium, hopefully as a participant.

SMU takes new approach
Even if the SMU men didn’t have one of its best and largest recruiting classes ever (15) players coming into camp this fall, Mustang coach Schellas Hyndman could feel confident that the returning players would still be a formidable foe on the college scene. After all, the holdovers went 3-0-1 in the spring competition and didn’t allow one goal. The team tied a full FC Dallas team 0-0, beat the Kansas City Wizards 1-0, beat the FCD reserves 1-0 and Midwestern, 1-0.
Before Lamar Hunt ever became involved in soccer, he demonstrated his physical athletic ability as a college football player at Southern Methodist University. Today, he was honored by inauguration into the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame. The award focused on his lifelong love and promotion of sports that eventually had an impact across the nation and worldwide.

The oft-repeated saying that “Less is more,” has been the underlying truth behind the SMU women’s soccer spring season.
Brent Erwin, headed into his third fall at the helm of the SMU this coming August, said the program has undergone a major change since the end of last fall and fans will see a big difference.

Schellas Hyndman knew he had a winner last year when he brought in Bill Beswick as the lead clinician for his annual coach’s clinic and seminar. But he said the response to Beswick was phenomenal.

SMU has already announced a record number of soccer recruits for this fall, 14, but is pleased to announce another one. SMU men's soccer head coach Schellas Hyndman confirmed the signing of midfielder Nima Naderi, the 15th player to sign this year with the Mustangs.

Hyndman recruits his largest-ever soccer class
It took awhile for all of the completed forms to arrive, with all of the details filled in, but SMU men's soccer head coach Schellas Hyndman was finally able to announce the recent signing of 14 student-athletes for the Mustangs' 2008 recruiting class.
"I am extremely excited about the 2008 class," Hyndman said. "We've got quite a few players coming in - more than we've ever had - and this class has a chance to be special, to be one of the best classes in the history of SMU soccer."

Over Kansas City Wizards reserves
Most observers say SMU midfielder Bruno Guarda could go right into an MLS career immediately following his graduation next season.
Guarda showed he could score against the Kansas City Wizards reserves (with a few first-teamers on the field as well) in a spring game for SMU on March 22. He scored the game's lone goal 30 minutes into the first half to lead the SMU men's soccer team to a 1-0.

1st spring outing for both teams
Both the SMU Lady Mustangs and Baylor Lady Bears delivered a spirited, but definitely defensive struggle Saturday in a 0-0 game at Westcott Field on the SMU campus. The result bore positives for both head coaches, even though it was devoid of goals.

SMU women’s soccer starts its spring schedule at 7 p.m. tonight at Westcott Field, hosting Baylor University. This is the only spring game schedueld in March.

SMU adds K.C. Wizards
The SMU men's soccer team has altered its spring schedule, starting with Friday’s scheduled game against Richland College. Because of a number of players still recovering from injuries, that match will now be played as part of a double-header on Saturday, April 5. SMU has also added a game against another MLS opponent.

After his SMU Mustangs held FC Dallas scoreless in a 0-0 tie scrimmage Tuesday night at Pizza Hut Park, head coach Schellas Hyndman had nothing but praise for the 13 players that stepped up to the challenge.

SMU opens its spring soccer exhibition schedule February 26 against FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park, 7:30 p.m. That is the starter of five games, ending April 18 against Midwestern State. Four of the games will be at home on Westcott Field.
