CHICAGO - The U.S. Women's National Team will host its second post-2012 London Olympics international friendly against Australia at 12:30 p.m. PT (2:30 CT) on Sunday, Sept. 16, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
The match will be broadcast live on NBC. Fans can also follow the match through ussoccer.com's Match Tracker and via Twitter @ussoccer_wnt.
Ticket information available will be announced in the near future.
The game will be a homecoming of sorts for a number of WNT players who grew up in Southern California. Among these are forwards Alex Morgan (Diamond Bar) and Amy Rodriguez (Lake Forest), midfielder Shannon Boxx (Redondo Beach), and defender Rachel Buehler (Del Mar).
The U.S. WNT will play at The Home Depot Center for the first time since a 1-0 victory against China PR on Dec. 13, 2008. The team is 9-0-0 at the home of U.S. Soccer's National Training Center.
The U.S. holds an impressive 19-0-2 record against Australia in the series, which started with a 6-0 win on Dec. 16, 1987, in Taipei, Taiwan. The two teams last met on June 15, 2008, with the USA earning a 2-1 victory against Australia in Suwon, South Korea.
This matchup is the second scheduled post-Olympic match for the USA, which hosts Costa Rica on Sept. 1 at 2:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. CT) at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, N.Y., the hometown of star striker Abby Wambach. The game will be broadcast live on NBC.
The three-time Olympic champion USA squad advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the Summer Games with a 3-0-0 record in Group G play and prepares for a match against New Zealand at 8:30 a.m. CT on Friday, Aug. 3, at St. James' Park in Newcastle, England (NBC Sports Network, NBC Olympic Soccer Channel, NBC Live Extra).
Should the U.S. advance past New Zealand, the team would face the winner of the Great Britain-Canada quarterfinal match on Monday, Aug. 6, in the Olympic semifinals at Old Trafford in Manchester, England. The gold medal match takes place Thursday, Aug. 9, at Wembley Stadium in London.
